Men’s Soccer Puts One in the Win Column
Cougars Earn Regional Shutout at Home
(Holyoke, MA) - Men's soccer put forth their best performance of the season on Saturday afternoon, earning a 2-0 home win over regional opponent Mass Bay CC. The Cougars have worked hard throughout the season, putting everything together on Saturday to earn the well-deserved shutout victory.
Mohamat Nour Moussa (Springfield, MA / Sudan) opened the scoring in the first half for Holyoke, burying his team-leading third goal of the season. Jeter Marques (Belchertown, MA /Belchertown HS) had the Cougars' second tally, a wild shot from a tough angle that dipped and turned its way into the side-netting. Nicolas Tobin (Chicopee, MA / Chicopee Comprehensive HS), who has been stellar defensively throughout the campaign, led the backs and assisted on the opening goal. Newcomer Jimmy Salzar (Westfield, MA / Westfield HS), playing in his first game of the year, recorded the assist on the second goal. Goalkeepers Elias Chico (Springfield, MA / West Springfield HS) and Mohammad Raeisi (Holyoke, MA / Holyoke HS) shared the shutout, the team's first of the season. Chico made two saves and Raeisi had one.
The win was men's soccer's first of the season; they improve to 1-6 overall and 1-6 in the region. They travel for their next two games before their regular season finale at home on Tuesday, October 22nd at 4pm against Quinsigamond CC. Let's go Cougars!
