Men’s Soccer Claims Regional Road Win
Fast Start Propels Cougars to Victory
(Framingham, MA) - Men's soccer traveled to take on regional opponent Mass Bay CC on Saturday afternoon. Holyoke was sharp out of the gate and scored a pair in the opening 12 minutes of the match on their way to a 4-2 win.
Freshman Tanner Lockwood (Ware, MA / Belchertown HS) scored twice in the contest, including a sensational acrobatic scissor kick goal for the Cougars' fourth tally in the 84th minute. Freshman Owen McKeever (Ware, MA / Ware HS) opened the scoring, finding the back of the net in the fifth minute of the game. Freshman Elijah Picard (Westhampton, MA / Hampshire Regional HS) had Holyoke's eventual game-winning goal, calmly converting a penalty kick in the 65th minute to give his team a 3-1 lead. Earning assists on the Cougars' goals were sophomore Elis Chico (Springfield, MA / West Springfield HS) and freshmen Ben Mahoney (Longmeadow, MA / Longmeadow HS) and Trey Akimana (Holyoke, MA / Vermont Academy HS), Akimana's coming from a well-delivered corner kick. Freshman Jordan Torres (Plainville, CT / Plainville HS) earned the penalty kick for Holyoke when he was fouled in the 18-yard box.
Men's soccer has a 2-4 overall record and 1-2 regional record. They travel for their next two games before a home matchup with local rival Springfield Technical CC on Tuesday, October 7th at 4pm. Let's go Cougars!
