Women’s Soccer Secures Second Straight Shutout
Davis Scores Five to Match Lady Cougars' All-Time Record
(Holyoke, MA) - Women's soccer earned their second consecutive home shutout victory, defeating regional opponent Bunker Hill CC 8-0 on Saturday afternoon. It was the Lady Cougars' first game in ten days and just their fourth this season as cancellations and postponements have become an all-too-common occurrence.
Sophomore forward Madisyn Davis (Ware, MA / Ware HS) was spectacular in the win, scoring five goals and matching an all-time HCC women's soccer record for goals scored in a game. Davis becomes just the third Lady Cougars' soccer player in history to register five goals in a game (Tai Lopez 2012 / Julie Peltier 1990). Davis opened the scoring by burying a penalty kick and tallied Holyoke's first three goals of the contest to earn her hat trick before adding another pair in the later stages of the game. Sophomore defender Emily McGrail (Ware, MA / Ware HS) stepped into a defensive midfield position part way through the game and embraced the role, scoring a goal and racking up three assists. Sophomore midfielder and defender Paige Hebert (Minnechaug Regional HS / Monson, MA) had a goal and an assist and led the defense, playing most of the game as HCC's center back. Freshman forward Madison Smith (Springfield, MA / Putnam Vocational Technical HS) scored her first collegiate goal and freshman midfielder Samantha Lowe (Ware, MA / Pathfinder Regional HS) had a pair of assists, her first collegiate points. Freshman goalkeeper Cadince Wells-Robinson (Conway, MA / Frontier Regional HS) made three saves in earning her and the team's second shutout of the season.
Women's soccer improves to 2-2 overall and 2-1 regionally. They travel to CC of Rhode Island for their next contest before hosting another Saturday home game on October 4th at 1pm versus Roxbury CC. Let's go Cougars!
