Women’s Soccer Rolls to Road Victory
Four Freshmen Score Their First Collegiate Goals
(Worcester, MA) - Women's soccer earned a decisive 7-0 road win over regional opponent Quinsigamond CC on Thursday afternoon. Four Lady Cougars' freshmen scored their first collegiate goals in the victory. The shutout was Holyoke's third of the season.
Sophomores Madisyn Davis (Ware, MA / Ware HS) and Emily McGrail (Ware, MA / Ware HS), who have been the Cougars' strongest performers this season, led the charge in Thursday's win. Davis potted a pair of goals and assisted on another while McGrail buried a goal to go along with two assists. Holyoke's other four goals were all scored by freshmen, each tallying her first goal as a college player. Cadince Wells-Robinson (Conway, MA / Frontier Regional HS), who has played most of her soccer career as a goalkeeper, scored what was not just her first collegiate goal but also the first she's ever scored in a soccer game at any level. Samantha Lowe (Ware, MA / Pathfinder Regional HS), Yanelis Lacen (Chicopee, MA / Chicopee HS) and Cianna Perez (Holyoke, MA / Putnam Vocational Technical HS) were the other three players who registered their respective firsts with Lowe adding an assist. Avery Ellis (Agawam, MA / homeschooled Agawam) started the game as Holyoke's goalkeeper with Wells-Robinson playing the second half, the pair sharing the shutout and Ellis earning an assist while playing on the field.
Women's soccer improves to 4-3 overall and 3-3 regionally. They travel for their next game before a rematch at home against this same Quinsigamond CC opponent on Wednesday, October 15th at 4pm. Let's go Cougars!
