Women’s Soccer Resilient Earning Road Shutout
Hebert Hammers Home Hat Trick
(Boston, MA) – Women's soccer traveled to earn a hard fought 3-0 shoutout victory over Bunker Hill CC on Saturday afternoon. A slightly depleted Lady Cougars squad overcame a 0-0 halftime score with a solid workmanlike second half performance to persevere over their well-organized regional opponent.
Paige Hebert (Minnechaug Regional HS / Monson, MA) shined in the win, scoring a hat trick from her center midfield position. All three of Hebert's goals were powerful shots, firmly hitting the back of the net behind the opposing goalkeeper. Her second was a quickly taken free kick that caught her opponents completely off guard. Emily McGrail (Ware, MA / Ware HS) put forth another strong performance, leading the defense and contributing offensively with an assist. Ivelise Aponte Gonzalez (Chicopee, MA / Chicopee HS) was stellar defensively in front of goalkeeper Cadince Wells-Robinson (Conway, MA / Frontier Regional HS) who made two saves and earned the shutout.
Women's soccer has a 5-3 overall record and a 4-3 regional record. They have registered four shutouts this season. Holyoke will host a pair of very important games in the upcoming week. On Wednesday, October 15th they welcome Quinsigamond CC at 4pm for a "pink out" game to support breast cancer awareness. On Saturday, October 18th HCC women's soccer will retire the #7 jersey of former player Amanda Cummings (Agawam, MA / Agawam HS) who tragically lost her life in August of 2023. The jersey retirement ceremony will be held at 3pm and Holyoke will host Bay Path University for a 3:30pm kickoff. Let's go Cougars!
