Men’s Soccer Dominant Scoring Ten in Road Win

Goals Galore as Pair of Cougars Tally Hat Tricks

(Amherst, MA) – Men's soccer took a short road trip on Saturday afternoon, exploding offensively for double digits in their 10-1 win over Hampshire College. You have to look back to 2018 to find the last time the Cougars scored ten goals in a game.

Elijah Picard (Westhampton, MA / Hampshire Regional HS) led the offensive onslaught and was one of two Cougars to register a hat trick in the win. Picard scored the first three goals of the game to complete his hat trick, including two in the opening six minutes. He'd later add a fourth goal and he also tallied a pair of assists in the game. Picard's ten total points is the second highest total all-time for men's soccer for points scored in a single game. Owen McKeever (Ware, MA / Ware HS) also had a game to remember, scoring a hat trick of his own to go along with two assists. McKeever scored a pair of his goals in a two-minute span and his eight total points fall into the men's soccer all-time record books as well. Ben Mahoney (Longmeadow, MA / Longmeadow HS) scored a goal and had two assists in the win and Jordan Torres (Plainville, CT / Plainville HS) and Elias Chico (Springfield, MA / West Springfield HS) each potted a goal. Goalkeeper Ryder Gallow (Belchertown, MA / Hopkins Academy) had some time to play on the field and registered an assist and Trey Akimana (Holyoke, MA / Vermont Academy) hit the scoresheet with a lovely assist of his own.

Men's soccer improves to 3-7 overall. They are 1-5 in the region and will need a few regional wins down the stretch to sneak into the playoffs. Holyoke will host Massasoit CC at 4pm on Tuesday, October 14th before a 1pm home game against Roxbury CC on Saturday, October 18th. Let's go Cougars!
