Women’s Volleyball Triumphant on Sophomore Night
Second-Year Cougars Honored in Regular Season Home Finale
(Holyoke, MA) – Women's volleyball hosted their regular season finale on Tuesday night while paying tribute to their second-year players with a sophomore night. The Lady Cougars cruised to 3-0 straight set win over Bristol CC, taking the sets 25-17, 25-12 and 25-14.
Photos, posters, balloons and decorations to honor the team's five sophomores were hung all around Golas Court, and it was the sophomores who led Holyoke to victory in the game. Isabelle Garutti (Springfield, MA / Sabis International Charter HS) and Sehkinah Delvalle (Manati, PR / Putnam Vocational Technical HS) led the way in points, Garutti scoring 11 and Delvalle ten. Garutti led the team in digs with 14 and service aces with six, and was one of three sophomores with a game-high five kills. Delvalle had five aces, five kills and five digs. Khimorah Arias (Springfield, MA / Commerce HS), Alianiz Bonilla (Springfield, MA / Commerce HS) and Shaliyah Toledo-Cruz (Springfield, MA / Sabis International Charter HS) all had stellar sophomore night performances. Arias had eight digs in her first game back from injury. Bonilla had eight points with five kills and seven digs. Toledo-Cruz had six points with 2 kills and five digs to go along with two aces.
Women's volleyball has a 17-3 overall record and a 16-2 regional record. They are 17-2 against fellow NJCAA teams. Holyoke travels to Bay Path University for their regular season finale on Wednesday, October 29th at 7:30pm. They will host a regional semifinal as the #1 seed in New England on Friday, October 31st at 7pm against #4 seed Northern Essex CC. If they win Friday, they will host the New England championship game on Sunday, November 1st at 1pm. Let's go Cougars!
