Women’s Soccer Falls in Regional Semifinal
Lady Cougars' Season Comes to an End
(Lincoln, RI) – Women's soccer saw their season come to an unfortunate end on Thursday afternoon, falling in their regional semifinal to CC of Rhode Island. Defending corner kicks proved to be the Lady Cougars' downfall as they conceded three goals on four corner kick attempts by their opposition. In a game that was much closer in the run of play than it's 5-1 final score, Holyoke played well but seemed to lack that something extra that Cougar soccer teams typically display in the postseason. This year's Lady Cougars were deprived of opportunities to grow and improve due to multiple game cancelations. Holyoke played just a miniscule ten-game regular season schedule as several opponents dropped their soccer programs in the middle of the year. This Saturday's New England championship game will be the first in 21 seasons that the HCC women's soccer program will not be a part of.
Samantha Lowe (Ware, MA / Pathfinder Technical HS) was Holyoke's top performer in the semifinal loss, playing her personal best game of the season. Lowe scored the Cougars' lone tally, which at the time knotted the game up at one a piece. HCC's leading scorer, Madisyn Davis (Ware, MA / Ware HS) notched the assist on the goal. It was the final appearance in the Cougar uniform for Davis along with four other sophomores. Joining her were Avery Ellis (Agawam, MA / Homeschooled), Briana Haley (Belchertown, MA / Belchertown HS), Paige Hebert (Minnechaug Regional HS / Monson, MA) and Emily McGrail (Ware, MA / Ware HS). All five sophomores had stellar soccer careers at HCC.
Women's soccer finishes the season with an 8-5 overall record and 6-5 regional record, including forfeit wins. They were 6-5 overall and 4-5 in the region in games decided on the field. Nine freshmen from this year's squad, including Lowe, can return to play in 2026. Let's go Cougars!
