Cougars Cruise to Non-Regional Home Victory
Baseball Bests Great Bay in Seven Innings
(Holyoke, MA) - Cougars baseball batted their way to an 11-1 home win on Monday afternoon, defeating non-regional opposition Great Bay CC (NH). Holyoke was strong at the plate, racking up their 11 runs by the seventh inning and ending the game early by amassing a ten-run lead.
Xavion Maldonado (Chicopee, MA / Chicopee HS) led the charge for the Cougars, hitting 3 for 5 from the plate. Maldonado drove in four RBIs and scored a run. Elijah Villanueva (Stamford, CT / AITE HS) and Nathan Kaczuwka (Ware, MA / Ware HS) both hit 2 for 3, with Villanueva scoring two runs and Kaczuwka one. Gavin Williams (Chicopee, MA / Chicopee Comprehensive HS) earned the win, pitching five innings, and Zack Oldenburg (Chicopee, MA / Chicopee HS) entered in relief to earn the save. The pair combined to throw five strikeouts.
Men's baseball improves their overall record to 5-11. They are 3-2 in the region. They play again at home on Tuesday, April 7th (today) at 3:30pm against UCONN Avery Point and will host a doubleheader against Northern Essex CC on Saturday, April 11th, beginning at noon. Let's go Cougars!
