Baseball Secures Sixth Straight Victory Via Shutout
Red Hot Cougars Keep Playoff Hopes Alive
(Worcester, MA) – Men's baseball was on the road Wednesday, earning a crucial victory over regional opponent Quinsigamond CC. The 10-0 shutout was the Cougars' sixth win in a row, and it keeps their postseason playoff hopes alive.
Three of Holyoke's top hitters had superb showings at the plate during the win. Nathan Kaczuwka (Ware, MA / Ware HS) had an exceptional outing, hitting 4 for 5 with three singles and a double. Kaczuwka drove in two RBIs and scored a run. Ben Caron (Conway, MA / Frontier Regional HS) hit 3 for 5 and knocked in three RBIs. Elijah Villanueva (Stamford, CT / AITE HS) had three hits, including a double and a triple. He drove home three RBIs and scored three runs. Matt Drobiak (Holyoke, MA / South Hadley HS) had a dominant performance on the mound, earning the win while giving up no runs and pitching the complete game. He threw five strikeouts and gave up just four hits in the contest.
Men's baseball has an overall record of 12-18 and a regional record of 8-8. They are currently tied for fourth place in the New England (Region XXI) standings with the top four teams at season's end qualifying for postseason play. They have two regional games remaining on their schedule, both against Quinsigamond CC. Holyoke will host QCC for a doubleheader at Cougar Field on Saturday, May 2nd, starting at 12 noon.
